Have you ever seen flashdisk which has the capability to transfer data extremely  fast ? If you haven’t, now there is USB 3.0 which has speed 4.8 Gbps to transfer data.  This USB even could defeat the the harddisk which has the fastest speed recently.  This USB 3.0 product is favourite Intel’s product which then given a name xHCI open USB 3.0. According to Intel, this product will be adopted by motherboard chipset vendor and add-on card vendor. This USB 3.0 has been announced and has entered into final stage in the previous days, but there is no specification released by Intel yet.

In practical, using protocol like USB could cause some compatibility problems if there are so many vendors apply the USB with different ways, just like what happen to Firewire several years ago. Because of that reason, Intel have intention to design one trusted specification to be used in whole world with free royalty license.

According to Intel, some of big vendors has used this xHCI open USB 3.0, like AMD, Microsoft, dan NEC. AMD will use xHCI open USB 3.0 with their motherboard, while Microsoft will use it as USB 3.0 driver basic that run on windows. For NEC, this product will be applied to the electronics made from NEC which has xHCI USB 3.0 port.

According to Intel, there are many vendors has tried to make product design which can be integrated to USB 3.0. Intel also said that xHCI open USB 3.0 will present in the market several months later.
